Custom Hot Water Skid for a Space-Constrained Pharmaceutical Facility

A custom-engineered hot water package designed around both the system requirements and the physical limitations of an existing facility.

The Background

A pharmaceutical manufacturer was expanding operations at an existing manufacturing facility and required additional hot water capacity. A potential location for the mechanical equipment was identified on a mezzanine within the plant, but both the final installation area and the available building access points presented significant space constraints.

HYFAB worked closely with the customer to develop an engineered package specifically around the facility's operating and installation requirements.

The Solution

HYFAB designed a custom skid incorporating a steam-to-water heat exchanger, pumps, air-control equipment and a glycol makeup unit.

The package featured single-point power, complete wiring to and from the variable frequency drives, and a step-down transformer for the single-phase glycol unit.

The skid was also engineered so selected components could be removed during installation, allowing the customer to maneuver the package through an existing opening in the building envelope. Because the installation requirements were communicated early and incorporated into the design, the package was installed smoothly and efficiently.
